COMMISSIONER & STAFF ORALS
Mr. Lopez provided the Board with an overview of the June 17, 2008 Council
Meeting, specifically the proposed budget presentation. Based on that presentation,
the city has now entered a "hard" hiring freeze. Staff has been directed to make
cuts to the budget which may include personnel.
-3-
Chairperson Bradley raised a concern and at the same time was confused as to
why the City was conducting budget cuts and posting job opportunities at the same
time. Mr. Lopez responded that openings were evaluated on a case by case basis,
including the department's needs and only with the authority of the City Manager
would the City be posting job opportunities.
Mr. Lopez also asked the Board for date(s) of availability to hear the personnel
appeal. The Board agreed that it would be best to have the personnel matter heard
in the month of August and staff asked if Wednesdays would still work the best for
the Board. Tentative dates were scheduled for August 6th, 13th and the 20th. The
Board will discuss it further in the July meeting.
Commissioner Lopez informed the Board that she would not be present for the July
meeting because she will be going on vacation.
Commissioner Robinson would like staff to check with the City Clerk's Office about
the certificates that they were supposed to receive for attending the commissioners'
training on May 19tH
