HomeMy Public PortalAbout2024 0306 Firefighter Ralph Parry DayCITY OF RIVERDALE PROCLAMATION In honor of the passing of Ralph A. Parry (December 28, 1932 - February 11, 2024), former member of the Riverdale Fire Department from May 1970 through June 1992, I hereby order, by the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the State of Iowa, that on the day of his services, March 6, 2024, and for 3 days following, the flag of the City of Riverdale shall be flown at half-staff at City Hall and upon all public grounds throughout the City of Riverdale. Ralph was born on December 28, 1932, in Belle Plain, IA, to Clifford and Florence (Adams) Parry. He was united in marriage to Rose (Wessel) Parry on September 20, 1957, in Davenport, and they spent 65 years together. Rosie preceded him in death on July 31, 2023. Ralph received his Bachelor's degree from the University of Northern Iowa and owned his own insurance agency for many years before retiring in 1995. Ralph served in the Army and was a volunteer firefighter for the city of Riverdale, Iowa, for many years. Ralph enjoyed many summer days with family boating the Mississippi, working in his yard, and taking family trips to Florida. He also enjoyed sports cars and owned a motorcycle shop. In addition to his service on the Riverdale Volunteer Fire Department, Ralph also served 8 years on the City's Planning and Zoning Commission in 1977 and from 2003 through 2010. In total, he provided over 29 years of service to the City of Riverdale, Iowa. PARRY DAY in Riverdale, and encourage staff, residents, and visitors to join me in honoring Ralph and his service to the community.
