Beatty, Hart, Printup and Taplin. Absent: Mr. White Also present were W. H. Webb, Village Manager; Mary T. Wetterer, Village Clerk; and Thomas H. Anderson, Village Attorney. Mr. Turner Wallis appeared before the council to report his progress with Dade County and other agencies regarding our beach erosion problem. He told the council that the most important thing was that Porter Homer's report to the Metro Commission should be completed without delay. Until the Commission has this report and Mr. Homer's recommendations it will do no good to appear before them again. He suggested that a letter be sent to the Metro Commission asking that they act on Mr. Homer's recommend- ation and also find out what share of the cost they will pay. He said that the work contemplated should be done by the County as they have the facilities for setting up the program to later obtain Federal aid credit. Mr. Hart asked the Village Manager to write a letter to the County Manager asking that the Public Works Department report be expedited to the Manager for recommend- ations to the Commission. Mr. Printup asked Mr. Wallis what more he could do for us and Mr. Wallis said that he had agreed for the 82,500.00 fee to bring this matter to issue and in his opinion he had not completed his contract. He agreed to continue working on the problem for the stipulated fee until we have a definite answer from Dade County. It was suggested that it should be determined how much the sand transfer would cost and possiblyit could be accomplished by sharing the cost with the County. Mr. Wallis said that the letter Mr. Webb will write to the Manager will provide a talking point. It was also his suggestion that we could contact United States Representatives Pepper and Cramer and Senator Holland on this matter. Mr. Webb stated he had contacted the State Road Department regarding our relandscaping the center parkway of Collins Avenue and in return they sent an Agreement for the Village to sign indicating that we would assume all costs of removing any ut- ilities, both public and private, in the way of their drainage pipes. Mr. Anderson said he was not ready to give his opinion on this agreement, but asked that Mr. Webb contact the utility companies involved and see what they will do. Mr. Printup suggested that after Mr. Webb receives the answers from the utility companies that he contact the council. Mr. Webb said he had written the hotel owners regarding building docks at the water tank site and had received only one answer. Mr. Taplin told him that the Resort Association was cping to have a meeting on this Monday and he would advise him. June 10, 1967 25 The Manager told the members that he understood that Surfside was going to pass an Ordinance prohibiting surfing. He said that if they did this the only space available would be the twenty-five foot at the end of 96th Street, which the surfers now use and occasionally disturb the guests at the hotels. He also said we believe that the surfers were putting beer can top openers in the parking meters. It was suggested that Mr. webb contact Surfside and bring it up at the next meeting. There being no further business on motion of Mr. Taplin, seconded by Mr. Beatty, the meeting was adjourned at 10:55 A. M. Attest: Village Clerk C [.-c c ().:) Ass't.
