TOL PR 2016-08-05 arts grants Town of Leesburg News Release For Immediate Release Media Contact: Betsy Arnett, Public Information Officer barnett@leesburgva.gov  703-771-2734 Three Local Arts Groups Receive Grants from Town of Leesburg Leesburg, VA (August 5, 2016) – Bluemont Concerts, Friends of Leesburg Public Arts, and Arts for All recently received checks from the Town of Leesburg in support of their local arts programs. This year the Town awarded $10,000 in grants to local arts organizations. The grants were partially funded by a $5,000 Local Government Challenge Grant from the Virginia Commission for the Arts, a program supported by the National Endowment for the Arts. Bluemont Concerts received $4,000 is support of their summer concert series, held on the Loudoun County Court House lawns on Sunday evenings in July. Friends of Leesburg Public Arts received $4,835 and will use the funding for the Art sPARKs Sculpture Trail in Raflo Park, the bicycle mural in the Town Hall Parking Garage and the 2nd annual “Paint the Plow” program in cooperation with Loudoun County high schools and middle schools located in Leesburg. Arts for All, formerly VSA of Loudoun, received $1,165 which will be used to provide scholarships for participants in the DaVinco Studio program who are unable to pay the usual participation fee. The DaVinci Studio provides individuals with special needs the opportunity to explore visual and performing arts in an inclusive environment. Grant recipients were selected through a competitive application process. The application period for FY 2018 local art grants will be announced in January 2017. Applicants must be organizations whose primary purpose is the arts (production, presentation or support of dance, literary arts, media arts, music, theater, or visual or related arts), that are incorporated in Virginia, and have their headquarters and home seasons, or activities equivalent to a home season, in the state. Funded arts activities must take place within the Town of Leesburg. # # #
