MEDINA CITY COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES OF OCTOBER 21, 2008
The City Council of Medina, Minnesota met in special session on October 21, 2008 at
6:03 p.m. in the Medina City Hall.
I. Call to Order
Members present: Crosby, Weir, Smith, Cavanaugh (present at 6:04 p.m.)
Members absent: Johnson
Also present: Assistant to City Administrator Jodi Gallup, Finance Director
Jeanne Day, and Public Works Superintendent Steve Scherer.
II. 2009 Budget Work Session
Day provided an overview of the water budget, water rate analysis, sewer budget, sewer
rate analysis, and storm water utility budget.
Discussion was held on the difference in revenue increases in the water budget beyond
the 5% rate increase over the 2008 budget numbers. Day indicated the 5% rate increase
was based on usage figures not the 2008 budget; it was also based on projected additional
usage which included Corcoran.
Staff received sanitary sewer service expenses from the Met Council for 2009 which will
increase the sewer expenditure budget as originally proposed by $39,157.
Discussion was held on the $47,000 administrative funds line item in the storm water
utility budget. There was a general consensus that $47,000 for administrative funds was
too high for an overall budget of $179,475. The Council directed staff to review the
storm water utility budget to try to lower the amount of funds spent on administrative
costs and provide further detail on proposed storm water projects for 2009.
III. Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned at 7:00 p.m.
