PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, There are over 1,400 community colleges across the United States, and of those, 1,047 are public
institutions. Nearly half of all students enrolled in public institutions are enrolled at community
colleges, resulting in a total annual enrollment of nearly 6 million students nationwide.
Community colleges provide higher education to students with the fewest resources and the
greatest obstacles, serving as vital centers of their communities; and,
WHEREAS, Scott Community College, located in Riverdale, Iowa, is a public community college and an asset
within the Quad Cities region; established in 1966, it serves over 7,000 students annually. The
faculty and staff of Scott Community College are fully devoted to the praiseworthy mission of
delivering high -quality education and training that prepares a skilled workforce, provides
equitable access to higher education, and builds and strengthens our communities; and,
WHEREAS, Scott Community College plays a vital role in the strength and prosperity of the Quad City
region by enriching the lives of its students and providing them with the skills to be productive
members of the community, and community college month is a time for us to acknowledge
Scott Community College and the important contributions it makes to the richness and
accessibility of post -secondary education in the Quad City region.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, Anthony Heddlesten, Mayor of the City of Riverdale, Iowa, do hereby
proclaim April 2024 as
Scott Community College Month
in Riverdale, and encourage staff, residents, and visitors to join me in recognizing Scott Community College for
the important role it plays in our community.
