HomeMy Public PortalAboutResolution 01:224 No. 01-224 Da{c or Ach~p~im_July 19, 2~00! RESOLUTION OPPOSING THE EXTENSION OF ELECTION POLLING HOURS TO 6:00 A.M. WHEREAS, there is legislation presently awaiting the Governor's signature that would require election polling precincts to open at 6:00 a.m. instead of 7:00 a.m. as is now required; and WHEREAS, it is already difficult to secure election board workers under the current working conditions which require polling places to remain open between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.; and WHEREAS, the aforementioned legislation would only exacerbate this already difficult situation from an administrative perspective placing an ever increasing burden on New Jersey's Municipalities. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Council of the Borough of Carteret, County of Middlesex, and State of New Jersey, that Acting Governor Donald T. DiFrancesco is hereby urged to veto S-1443 which would extend polling hours to 6:00 a.m. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution shall be forwarded to Acting Governor Donald T. DiFrancesco. Adopted this 19th day of July, 2001 and certified as a true copy of the original on July 20, 2001. KATHLEEN M.
