HomeMy Public PortalAbout10/23/2012 Special CCMMEDINA CITY COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES OF OCTOBER 23, 2012 The City Council of Medina, Minnesota met in special session on October 23, 2012 at 7:30 a.m. at the locations noted below in Medina, MN. I. Call to Order Members present: Crosby, Siitari, Pederson, Weir Members absent: Martinson Also present: City Administrator Scott Johnson, Public Works Superintendent Steve Scherer, City Planner Dusty Finke, and Police Chief Ed Belland. II. 2012 Fall Business Tours Rolling Green Business Park — 817 Meander Court — City Council and staff met with Marianne Houlihan from State Farm, Scott Mueller CPA, and Mark Johnson (Board Members of the Rolling Green Owners Association). The board members shared with the City Council their concerns with the following issues: County Road 116 traffic, Klingelhutz abandoning the unfinished business park, errors with the installation of the sewer, concerns over the City's Letter of Credit not covering needed improvements, parking lot concerns, code concerns on the existing buildings (siding installed incorrectly and mold concerns with the unfinished condo next to 817 Meander Court), sprinkler heads were broken during the parking lot project, flashing on the dormers, and concerns with maintaining architectural integrity with future buildings in the business park. Scott Johnson will discuss the issues from this project with the consultants. Council directed staff to hold the spring 2013 Business Forum at the Hamel Community Building and invite all 15 members from the Rolling Green Business Park. Target — 300 Clydesdale Trail — City Council and staff met with Laura Richter, Store Team Leader, for a tour of the facility and to discuss any concerns. The following items were discussed: volunteer opportunities for Target (Friends of the Park Program, clean-up day, tree plantings, Bicycle Rodeo, and Night to Unite) and power outages in the store. Scott Johnson will forward information on the Hollydale Transmission Line project to Laura Richter. Medina Entertainment Center — 500 MN Highway 55 — City Council and staff met with Mark Raskob, Rick Wiley, and Bob Raskob. The following items were discussed: the difficult business climate, concerns about stringent/costly ordinances, property for sale by the Raskob's behind the facility that is zoned high density (possible apartment complex), business climate for the motel, upgrades to the facility, planning for future upgrades to the facility, working with local businesses to provide lodging for guests, use of social media to expand business, providing information in the City welcome packets on the Medina Entertainment Center, and the possibility of starting a business group with other Highway 55 businesses.
