We recently ran both of these topics but felt it important to repeat the information:
Operation Station:
A couple messages from Riverdale’s Public Works Department
If you see suspicious activity, please call 911. 911 will determine if
your call is an emergency or a non-emergency and will respond
accordingly. Photos are not helpful to law enforcement if there
is no report to go with the pictures. We know it may feel weird
to call 9-1-1 but that is truly what all Riverdale residents need to do– even for
things like noise complaints, parking issues, loose dogs, etc. So, please
remember– if something doesn’t look right, don’t hesitate to call!
Please help keep our storm drains clear. Riverdale is such a beautiful place to
live: beautiful lawns, great tree cover, not much litter (if any at all). But all of
Mother Nature’s beauty has potential to cause an issue– clogged storm drains.
Storm drains can become clogged with grass/leaves/yard waste, garbage, etc.
We would really appreciate everyone’s help in making sure our storm drains
stay clear of debris. If you see anything in the drain, please pick it up and
dispose of it in the proper place. Thank you!

Duck Creek Pancake House
I don’t know if it is possible to live in Riverdale and not have checked out
the Duck Creek Pancake House located at 4405 State Street. It is
Riverdale’s only breakfast and brunch restaurant! If you have visited,
you know the restaurant serves up much more than pancakes; there’s
salads, burgers, wraps, French toast, and more on their menu. They have
been in business for 13 years under current owner Zaim Mustafa, who is
known by all as “Z.” I had a chance to sit down with Z to chat about his
life, restaurant, and food. Please, get to know your neighbor, Zaim Mustafa and the Duck Creek Pancake House.
How would you want someone to describe your restaurant to someone new? This is a nice family restaurant serving
up good food. We are open 7 days a week from 5:30a to 2p. I am here everyday!
Do you have any specials? We have a different soup every day– Monday is chicken & noodle,
Tuesday is broccoli, Wednesday is ham & bean, Thursday is chicken & dumpling, Friday is
cheesy potato, Saturday is vegetable beef, and Sunday is chicken & rice. We always have daily
specials on items including our pancakes, waffles, skillets, omelets, biscuits and gravy, etc.
Any history you would like to share? The space was occupied by Mickey’s Café before I
moved the Pancake House into the space. I was driving by regularly and saw the building was
available. I loved the Quad City Area, and the location of the restaurant, so I made the move
to open the business. I started Duck Creek Pancake House from scratch by myself.
What is your favorite thing about being located in Riverdale? I have great customers!
Thank you to everyone who supports us. I have the most respect for the City of Riverdale
and the residents here. I also have the best staff– all of my staff are great but I want to give a special shout out to
Angie, who has been with me for 11 years!
Any goals for the restaurant? Yes, but you will have to stay tuned for a special announcement!
What is your personal favorite menu item? All of it is good! I create the menu and my cooks/kitchen staff are
excellent at making the food. It is all my favorite.
Do you live in Riverdale? No, I live in Clinton. I have another restaurant located in Camanche called Spring Garden.
It has been open for 26 years.
Did you grow up in the area? No, I am from Europe. I moved to Iowa in 1995.
Do you want to share anything about your family? I have been married to my wife for 30 years. We have 3 children.
All of them are proud University of Iowa graduates! Go Hawkeyes! Our oldest daughter, Afije, is married and lives in
Chicago. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts and Business. Our middle daughter, Afrime, will graduate with her
Bachelor of Science degree this year. And our youngest son, Afrim, is a Computer Science Engineer. All of our children
have worked in the Pancake House! We also have one grandchild who turns 1 in May! My parents and brother live in
Wisconsin.
Favorite thing to do in your free time? I love to spend time with my kids and grandchild, and visit my family!
Anything else you would like to share? I just want to make everyone happy, keep this area clean, keep it nice!
Thank you Z for being in the newsletter. I really enjoyed my
time chatting with you, and can tell how much you
love your restaurant.
Riverdale– Be sure to stop by and try it for yourself.
Watch for updates from the Pancake House in the next
month or so!
