A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF TEMPLE CITY RECOGNIZING THE TEMPLE CITY
KIWANIS CLUB'S 50TH ANNIVERSARY.
WHEREAS, the Kiwanis Club of Temple City became a chartered
member of Kiwanis International on August 8, 1939.
WHEREAS, following the Kiwanis motto "We Build ", services
have been and are directed to the individual, the youth, the
community, the country and internationally.
WHEREAS, Kiwanis Club members participate in a wide range of
community programs including collecting and donating used eye-
glasses, Temple City Sister City, Coordinating Council, and since
1969 holds an annual barbeque.
WHEREAS, in 1949, the Kiwanis Club originated the "Line of
Dimes" for the Los Angeles County March of Dimes.
WHEREAS, the Kiwanis Club also raised funds given to the
Temple City School District and used to construct the present
swimming pool at Temple City High School.
WHEREAS, in the 1960's, the Kiwanis Club members remodeled
the former City Maintenance Building at Live Oak Park.
WHEREAS, the Kiwanis Club sponsors many youth activities
including little league, soccer, youth football teams, a Key Club
(a high school level Kiwanis Club) at Temple City High School.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TEMPLE CITY
DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The City Council of the City of Temple City does
hereby reaffirm and recognize the basic aim and objective of the
Kiwanis Club is to provide services to the individual, the
youth, the community, the country and internationally.
SECTION 2. The City Council recognizes the 50 years of
outstanding service to the community and hereby declares
August 8, 1989 as TEMPLE CITY KIWANIS DAY.

I, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution, Resolution
No. 89 -2890 was duly adopted by the City Council of the City of
Temple City at a regular meeting held on the 18th day of July,
1989 by the following vote:
AYES: Councilmember- Atkins, Breazeal ,Gillanders,Swain,Froehle
NOES: Councilmember -None
ABSENT: Councilmember -None
