Leesburg Declares Thursday, October 20, 2016, “Police
Appreciation Day”
Residents encouraged to wear blue and tie blue ribbons on trees and mailboxes.
Leesburg, VA (October 12, 2016) – On Thursday, October 20, 2016, the Leesburg Town Council
will recognize the commitment and dedication of the Leesburg Police Department with the
second annual Leesburg Police Appreciation Day. The Council formally approved a Town
Proclamation declaring October 20, 2016, as “Police Appreciation Day”.
Leesburg Police officers and department staff members will be treated to breakfast, lunch and
dinner courtesy of the Leesburg Town Council and John Marshall Bank which is the event
sponsor. The meals will be served at the Leesburg Police Department headquarters during
morning roll call, lunchtime, and evening roll call.
To mark the day, the Town of Leesburg will place blue ribbons on trees in front of Town
facilities, at Town parks, and throughout the downtown. Residents, schools, and businesses are
encouraged to show their support for the Leesburg Police by tying blue ribbons around trees in
their yards, on their mailboxes, and their doors. The Town asks residents to wear blue on
Thursday, October 20, as an additional sign of support and appreciation.
"Keeping our town safe is the most important function of the government,” said Leesburg
Mayor David Butler. “I encourage everyone to show their support for our outstanding police
department, not just on this day, but every day. I look forward to wearing blue on October
20th.”
Members of the public can write notes of thanks and encouragement on the "Leesburg Police
Appreciation Day" Facebook page at www.facebook.com/LeesburgPoliceAppreciationDay. The
page will be active until October 19, 2016. On Thursday, October 20, the thank you notes
posted will be displayed at the Police Department for all department staff to enjoy.
