Minor Aircraft Accident at Leesburg Executive Airport
Leesburg, VA (October 16, 2016, 9:23 p.m.) – At approximately 5:00 p.m. this evening, a Cessna
182 aircraft went off the runway at Leesburg Executive Airport upon landing. After leaving the
runway, the aircraft flipped over. Emergency crews responded to the scene.
There were four people aboard the aircraft, the pilot and three passengers. One passenger was
transported to Inova Loudoun Hospital’s Leesburg Campus Emergency Room where she was
treated for non-life threatening injuries and released. The pilot and other two passengers were
assessed and treated at the scene.
The runway was closed during the initial emergency response and was reopened by 6:00 p.m.
As the aircraft was being righted in order to tow it to a storage hangar, a fuel leak was
discovered. The Loudoun County Hazmat Team responded and is currently on scene performing
fuel clean up. At the time of the accident, the pilot reported having less than 50 gallons of fuel
on board. The fuel spill is contained. There is no fire or danger of a fire.
A FAA Investigator is currently on scene.
