As a follow up to the attached request from the Honorable Town Council President Mark S. Sideris, I respectfully request an Informational Presentation on the School's Summer 2010 Capital Improvement Projects be placed on the October 12, 2010 Town Council Agenda. An updated list of expenditures to date and any photographs of the projects would be helpful and appreciated. From: Michael J,Driscoll,Town Manager Date: May 21,2010 RE: AGENDA I-fEM—PROPOSED LOAN ORDER As stated ill the Fiscal Year 2011 Budget Message, a Proposed Loan Order will be brought forward in May-Juno 2010 for Summer 2010 Improvements in accordance with the fTonorable Town Cotincil's conceptual recommendation on the Fiscal Year 2011-2015 Capital Improvement Program, Since 1995, the Honorable Town Council has appropriated $47,993,700 in Loan Order authorizations and additional transfer of funds for the renovating, expanding and equipping of all the schools. In an effort to protect that investment,the Fiscal Year2011-2015 CIP includes funding of various school improvements totaling $4,500,000 over the nest five years including $900,000 in Fiscal Year 2011, of which $600,000 will be included in a future loan order and $300,000 is projected to be funded within the School Department's operating budget. The Council's Committee on Education and School System Matters and the Committee on Budget and Fiscal Oversight held a joint meeting last eight to discuss Summer 2010 School Building Improvements. As a follow up to the discussion .at last night's meeting and further discussion this morning, enclosed please find additional information on the Summer 2010 School Building Improvements. If a presentation is needed we request that it be given in October or later as members of the Buiildings and Grounds Subcommittee will not be available until then. As always, any presentation by school personnel before the Town Council should have appropriate School Committee members present. As you can well understand, given the size of the capital project budget and potential impact on improving our schools, the Council, and importantly, the residents of Watertown require a full understanding of these projects.
