Leesburg, VA – Thursday, October 20, 2016, was Leesburg Police Appreciation Day. Throughout the day, community members delivered cards, banners, treats and other tokens of appreciation to the Police Department offices. The officers and their families were treated to breakfast, lunch and dinner at the department, courtesy of John Marshall Bank. One of the most extravagant gifts was a handmade quilt, presented to Chief Gregory Brown by Mickey Holman and Carolyn Hartley of the Waterford Quilters Guild (pictured at right). This beautiful quilt will be displayed at the Leesburg Police Department on Plaza Street. A slideshow with a sample of the many ways that the Leesburg community expressed its appreciation for the hard work and dedication of the Town’s police officers is on the Town website at www.leesburgva.gov/policeappreciationday. The Leesburg Police Department posted the following on its Facebook page on Friday, October 21, 2016: “We are extremely humbled and honored by the outpouring of public support th at we received yesterday on "Police Appreciation Day." The blue ribbons, banners, and balloons throughout the Town, along with the cards, letters, and social media posts served as motivation to all of us that we make a difference.” # # #
