HomeMy Public PortalAboutResolution 90-29451 1 1 RESOLUTION NO. 90 -2945 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TEMPLE CITY, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, CALIFOR- NIA, SUPPORTING THE MOVE TO PRESERVE UNITED STATES ROUTE 66 AS AN HISTORIC HIGHWAY WHEREAS, United States Route 66, a two thousand -mile highway from Chicago, Illinois, to Santa Monica, California, has played a major role in the twentieth - century history of our country; and WHEREAS, Route 66 has become a symbol of the American people's heritage of travel and their legacy of seeking a better life; and WHEREAS, Route 66 served as a funnel for the twentieth - century migration from the Dust Bowl of the Central States; and WHEREAS, Route 66 has been memorialized in such books as "Grapes of Wrath ", songs, motion pictures, and television programs, and has become an accepted part of American popular culture; and WHEREAS, during the early 1980's, structures and features along Route 66 began to disappear and the historical value lost to the Nation. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the City Council of the City of Temple City takes this opportunity to encourage that Route 66 be commemorated as a Nationally significant highway that was one of the longest and earliest transcontinental roadways in America and that Route 66 be preserved as a historic highway. APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 20th day of March, 1990. I hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution, Resolution No. 90 -2945, was adopted by the City Council of the City of Temple City at a regular meeting held on the 20th day of March, 1990, by the following vote: AYES: Councilmember- Atkins,Breazeal ,Gillanders,Swain,Froehle NOES: Councilmember -None ABSENT: Councilmember -None
