GWYNN Deputy Tuwu Clerk BARBARA GWYNN Cniel of Police JAMES GREER Mr. Dixson opened the discussion by requesting a review from Chief Greer regarding the background of his sworn personnel. Chief Greer gave a brief history of the Police Department for the past 5'z years and spoke of the achievements of each police officer. At this time Mr. Koch complimented Chief Greer and his Department for their accomplishments. The following items of interest were then brought up and discussed between the members of the Commission and the Police Department: - The possibility of having all criminal cases investigated by the Sheriff's Department was discussed briefly and disgarded by mutual assent. - The question of a possible intracoastal patrol was also dismissed by three of the four Commissioners, with Mr. Dixson being in favor of this new unit. - The Commissioners mutually decided that the Rusten Report has served its purpose successfully and should be comolied with. - Chief Greer explained the scheduling of his staff and how he combined his system with the suggestions of the Rusten Associates. - There was a lengthy debate involving the Commissioners and the Police Department concerning four extra police officers being added to the Police Department, as was being requested by Mr. Dixson. A poll of the Commissioners (3 to 1 against) decided this idea was not feasible. The desenting Commissioners agreed that they may consider one additional police officer. Mr. Cwynn presented the cost to the Town of an additional police officer. The possibility of one additional employee was tabled at this time. Minutes Special Commission Meeting May 28, 1986 page 2 - Following a discussion concerning a county -wide salary survey that was conducted by the Police Department, the Commissioners agreed that a change in the top -out salary of the Police Department was in order. Mr. Koch stated that the salary discussion would be tabled until the budget sessions. - Chief Greer briefly announced that the progress of the new police facility was on schedule. 3. Adjournment.
