JAMES GREER
Mr. Dixson opened the discussion by requesting a review from Chief Greer
regarding the background of his sworn personnel. Chief Greer gave a brief
history of the Police Department for the past 5'z years and spoke of the
achievements of each police officer.
At this time Mr. Koch complimented Chief Greer and his Department for their
accomplishments.
The following items of interest were then brought up and discussed between
the members of the Commission and the Police Department:
- The possibility of having all criminal cases investigated by the Sheriff's
Department was discussed briefly and disgarded by mutual assent.
- The question of a possible intracoastal patrol was also dismissed by three
of the four Commissioners, with Mr. Dixson being in favor of this new unit.
- The Commissioners mutually decided that the Rusten Report has served its
purpose successfully and should be comolied with.
- Chief Greer explained the scheduling of his staff and how he combined his
system with the suggestions of the Rusten Associates.
- There was a lengthy debate involving the Commissioners and the Police
Department concerning four extra police officers being added to the
Police Department, as was being requested by Mr. Dixson. A poll of the
Commissioners (3 to 1 against) decided this idea was not feasible. The
desenting Commissioners agreed that they may consider one additional
police officer. Mr. Cwynn presented the cost to the Town of an additional
police officer. The possibility of one additional employee was tabled
at this time.
