Virtual Presentation to Discuss Henry Morton Stanley’s
Exploration of Africa
Leesburg, VA (March 7, 2022) – Andrew Jampoler will
present his virtual lecture, “Through the Dark Continent:
Henry Morton Stanley and the Exploration of Africa” on
Wednesday, March 16, beginning at 1 p.m. EDT.
Henry Morton Stanley’s successful search in 1871 for the
Scottish medical missionary, David Livingstone, was a
newspaper circulation-building caper funded by the NY
Herald’s publisher. Its brilliant success, Stanley’s
subsequent bold trek east to west across Central Africa in
1874-77, and his later services to Leopold II made him
famous, and thrust Africa indelibly into the con sciousness
of the western world.
Pre-registration is required for this event. Please call 703-737-7195,
email balchlib@leesburgva.gov, or register online.
Andrew Jampoler is an alumnus of Columbia College and the School of International and Public
