New Exhibit from Loudoun Heritage Farm Museum on Display
at Thomas Balch Library
Leesburg, VA (April 6, 2022) β A new exhibit from Loudoun
Heritage Farm Museum, βThe Nokes Family Farm Equipment,β
is available for viewing at Thomas Balch Library.
This exhibit includes photos, advertisements, and pieces of a
1930's New Idea model manure spreader. This manure
spreader was recovered from the Nokes farm property in
Sterling only weeks before the historic farmhouse was
destroyed.
Throughout the 20th century, the African American village of
Nokes, home to the Nokes, Edds, Ewing, and Jackson families ,
included the family houses, a school, and a store. Together
with Sterling residents, the Black History Committee of Friends
of the Thomas Balch Library, and supporters from all over the
county, the Loudoun Heritage Farm Museum is raising funds to repair and preserve this piece of
agricultural history in eastern Loudoun.
The exhibit is available to view in the Mercer Room during the month of April. Please call 703 -
737-7195 or email balchlib@leesburgva.gov for more information.
