Local Schools Invited to Submit Designs for “Paint the Plow”
Deadline for submissions is Monday, June 20, 2022.
Leesburg, VA (May 6, 2022) – The Town of Leesburg Commission on Public Art (COPA) and the
Friends of Leesburg Public Arts (FOLPA) invite local schools to be a part of the Town of
Leesburg’s “Paint the Plow” art project. This year’s theme is “Weather”.
Three designs will be chosen and painted onto Town of Leesburg snow plow blades, which
measure 12’ wide by 3’ high. The artwork will featured in the 2022 Leesburg Kiwanis Halloween
Parade and the Town’s Christmas and Holiday parade, in addition to being visible while plowing
Town streets during snow events.
Artwork must be an original student design and students must paint the plow. School staff may
help direct the selection of students and designs but students must implement the project. Up
to three (3) designs may be submitted from each school however, only one (1) design per
school will be chosen. Submissions are due no later than Monday, June 20, 2022.
All submissions will be reviewed by an art advisory panel that will send their final
recommendations to COPA for final approval. Once COPA has approved the design, the artist(s)
will be notified.
Plows will be delivered to the selected schools by Monday, August 22, and must be painted no
later than Friday, October 14. The Town of Leesburg will pick up the painted plows when
completed. Each winning school will receive $100 towards painting supplies.
Voting for the best plow art is run by FOLPA and will be held before and during the Halloween
Parade. The school that receives the most votes will win $50 0 for their school program. Second
and third place will each win $100 for their programs.
Artwork should be submitted in .pdf or .jpg format and sent to COPA Liaison Leah Kosin at
lkosin@leesburgva.gov no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, June 20, 2022. Submission guidelines
