Virginia Village
Proposed mural designs are due by Tuesday, May 31, 2022.
Leesburg, VA (May 20, 2022) – The Town of Leesburg is seeking
design submissions for the installation of mural on the exterior
of Maverick Bikes, located at 32-C Catoctin Circle SE in Virginia
Village Shopping Center. This call for submissions is the next
step of the Private Property Mural Pilot Program, which was
approved by the Leesburg Town Council on March 8.
The total size of the mural area is approximately 100 feet long
and 24 feet high. The design of the mural should be relevant to
the approved theme, “Celebrating Music in Leesburg”. All
submissions will be considered.
The call is open to all artists and artist teams in the Washington, D.C. metro region. Emerging artists and
artist teams are encouraged to apply. There is no requirement for previous public art experience.
All submissions will be reviewed by an ad-hoc committee, and the property owner will review each
submission. A final recommendation will be sent to the Leesburg Commission on Public Art ("COPA"),
which will review the recommendation prior to presenting it to the Town Council. Once the Town
Council has approved the design, the artist will be notified. Installation of the proposed mural by the
selected artist will take place once the artist has entered into a legal contract with the Town of
Leesburg.
Deadline for submissions is Tuesday, May 31, 2022 and can be emailed to lkosin@leesburgva.gov or by
mail to: Town of Leesburg, Commission on Public Art, 25 W Market Street, Leesburg, VA 20176, ATTN:

In July 2021, the Leesburg Town Council approved the creation of a pilot program to allow murals to
voluntarily be created on certain private commercial properties, subject to certain terms and conditions.
An ad-hoc committee, made up of business owners, relevant commission members, and Town staff, was
formed to assess the program and make a final report with recommendations to the council regarding
the impacts, costs, and benefits of the pilot program on the community. In January 2022, a presentation
was made to Council and the program was approved and officially launched on March 8, 2022.
