Leesburg Business Development Manager Selected to Serve on
HUBZone Council Economic Development Committee
Leesburg, VA (December 6, 2016) – The HUBZone Contractors
National Council recently appointed Kindra Harvey, Leesburg’s
Business Development Manager, to the Council’s Economic
Development Committee.
The mission of the Economic Development Committee is to
define and promote economic benefits of the HUBZone
Program, to reach out to state and local economic
development agencies and district SBA offices to promote the
HUBZone Program, to develop a toolbox of resources to assist
small businesses and agencies in maximizing HUBZone
benefits, and to monitor and recommend changes to related
programs and services. Ms. Harvey will bring a local economic
development agency perspective to the committee.
“I believe the spirit of the HUBZone program makes it one of the best programs to benefit small
government contractors and the community,” Ms. Harvey commented. “This program helps
small business owners grow and expand their company while giving back to the community by
helping neighbors to start a new career. I am honored to be a member of the HUBZone
Contractors National Council’s Economic Development Committee and to represent my
community and communities around the country.”
The Leesburg HUBZone was designated by the U.S. Small Business Administration in 2013,
based on data from the 2010 Census. The HUBZone program promotes economic development
and employment growth in distressed areas through federal contracting opportunities. In 2014,
the Town of Leesburg’s Economic Development Office was named the HUBZone Contractors
National Council’s Economic Development Agency of the Year for their support and promotion
of the HUBZone program. Currently, 73 businesses located in the Leesburg HUBZone have
received their HUBZone certification.
