J. Lupton Middle School Wins 2016 “Paint the Plow” Contest
Friends of Leesburg Public Arts presented J. Lupton Simpson Middle School with
a $100 prize for the school’s “Festival of Lights” winning entry.
Leesburg, VA (December 14, 2016) –
Students from J. Lupton Simpson Middle
School created the winning entry in the
Town of Leesburg’s 2016 “Paint the Plow”
contest. The Leesburg Commission on
Public Art announced the winner and
recognized all participants at the Leesburg
Town Council meeting on Tuesday,
December 13, 2016.
Four Loudoun County Public Schools in
Leesburg participated in the second
annual “Paint the Plow” public art project, sponsored by the Leesburg Commission on Public Art
and the Friends of Leesburg Public Arts. The 2016 theme was “Holidays” and the four entries
were:
Chinese New Year, by Tuscarora High School
Earth Day, by Harper Park Middle School
Festival of Lights, by J. Lupton Simpson Middle School
Pi Day, by Smart's Mill Middle School
The painted snow plow blades were featured in the Kiwanis Halloween Parade and the
Christmas & Holiday Parade. Members of the public could vote for their favorite design in an
online survey. The Simpson Middle School entry garnered 374 votes out of 1,071 total votes
cast.
