HomeMy Public PortalAbout2021-07-191 REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING, JULY 19, 2021 CALL TO ORDER Mayor Carrie Tergin called the July 19, 2021 City Council meeting to order at 6:01 P.M. ROLL CALL The f ollowing Councilmembers were present for roll-call: Present: Fitzwater, Hensley, Kemna, Lester, Spencer, Spicer, Vogt, Ward and Wiseman Absent: Schreiber A quorum was present. ADOPTION OF THE AGENDA A motion was made by Councilmember Ward and seconded by Councilmember Kemna to adopt the agenda. The motion passed unanimously. MISCELLANEOUS AGENDA ITEMS a. Dr. Tom Robbins, JCMG Medical Director provided a pandemic update. Mayor Tergin read an update provided by Kristi Campbell, Cole County Health Department Director. b. Steve Cearlock gave a Patriot Day update and announced upcoming events commemorating the 20th anniversary of September 11th. i. Friday, September 10th – Opening ceremony on the Capitol lawn. The Capitol dome will be lit up in red and blue lights ii. Saturday, September 11th – Tunnel to Towers 5K Run at 8:30 A.M., Rededication of Veteran’s Plaza at the Police Department at 10:30 A.M., Parade at 12:00 P.M., food will be sold at St. Peter’s Sellinger Center to benefit the Firefighter’s Museum in Kingdom City. iii. T-shirts and hats are for sale to benefit Safety Net and American Legion Legacy Riders. Those wishing to purchase the items can email Stevelock116@gmail.com. c. Mayor Carrie Tergin recognized the Mayor’s Choice Award Winners of the Capital Arts/Historic City of Jefferson High School Sketch Day: Jessica Koenigsfeld (Helias High School) and Allison Whittle (Tuscumbia High School) PUBLIC HEARINGS There were no public hearings at this time. 2 REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING, JULY 19, 2021 APPOINTMENTS BY THE MAYOR There were no appointments at this time. PRESENTATIONS FROM STAFF, CONSULTANTS & INVITED GUESTS There were no presentations at this time. ANNOUNCEMENTS BY MAYOR, COUNCIL, AND STAFF City Council Committee announcements: • Finance and Budget Committees - There will not be a July Finance Committee meeting this month as the first Budget Committee meeting is Monday, July 26th. Mayor Tergin provided a letter to City Council outlining the Mayor’s budget for Councilmembers to review prior to the meeting. The budget books will be available tomorrow, July 20th at City Hall. Electronic copies are also available. The budget meetings are open to the public and held in City Council Chambers. • Councilmember Ward announced the Human Relations Commission meeting on Friday, July 23rd at 9:00 A.M. The meeting will be both in-person and virtual. • Councilmember Lester reminded everyone of the upcoming August 3rd election. The only item on the ballot is Proposition 1: The Capital Improvements Sales Tax Renewal. Information can be found at improvejeffcity.com. Mayor Tergin made the following announcements: • Emily Donaldson, City Clerk recently received her certification as a Missouri Registered City Clerk. • The City, a United Way Pacesetter Team, has started fundraising. Pledge cards have been distributed to City Council. The City is also hosting a penny war. The top three City Directors with the most donations will play the game “Pie in the Face”. • Firefighters Local 671 Golf Tournament is this Friday, July 23rd at Oak Hills golf course. The teams are full, but sponsorships are still available. • Longtime philanthropist and entrepreneur B.J. Delong passed away last Sunday. Her funeral was today. Ms. Delong was the major financial contributor to the Bicentennial Bridge. • The Bicentennial Bridge and Chess Board Dedication is scheduled for August 9th. • August 10th is Statehood Day. Event information can be found at missouri2021.org. The motion passed unanimously.
