Joyce Edner Paulette Bradley Lorene Recd Absent: Presentation on Senior Housing-Questions/Answers-Tony Rizk, PH. D., P.E. & Chuck Williams: Tony Rizk -Good afternoon, I'm with a company called Cedars Engineering. Chuck Williams is the project manager, which is the rehabilitation and rental of 11300 Atlantic Avenue, Lynwood, California. I am sure you all know the history better than I do on how this project has been going on for years to turn it into Senior Citizens' housing. Well it's becoming a reality now and by this Fall it may be ready to be occupied. We are going to give preference to the residents of the City of Lynwood. For this reason we were invited and we are glad to be here to inform you of what we are doing. I will try to be brief and appreciate your attention on this project (Power Point Presentation). We will start the application process by May 30, 2009 or June I, 2009. Chuck Williams -1 would like to welcome you to this presentation. We are just as excited about this project as you are. It is going to be very beautiful. We are in the process, we just got started this week and we are certainly excited as we are going to be doing something that is going to help people. Our desire is to make it look more beautiful than you see here. We hope that you will like it and hope we can accommodate any interest or anything that you want or desire in there. Maybe you can give us some ideas of things you want to see and we can consider those as we make progress. Tony Rizk -This is why the application process will take time. We have to take the applications including income verification and process it. There are formulas for different income levels and section 8 funding. There are 15 units with one bedroom, living room, bathroom, and kitchen. 'fhe utility bills are separate, each unit has its own electricity and gas. We will provide the water and trash. 'there is a laundry room with four washers and dryers. Some classes that are not well attended, they can inquire and perhaps enroll in those classes. I want to remind the senior members about solicitation if there is information that is being distributed. All material and literature here in the center must have a senior approved stamp in order for distribution. This will allow you to know that the information has been reviewed and approved by our division and it is now being made available to the public. If you have any questions talk to staff or if you have visitors that are in here distributing literature make sure you direct them to staff. I would certainly appreciate that. Pubic Orals: Pearline Calderon -For the record there is a concern and need to reconstruct the senior center event fliers so that they will clearly identify the event, thereby preventing any misunderstanding to our seniors. An example is what happened on the trip to the museum. As there was no prior information given on the details, on the flier. The statement was made that the situation could have been handled differently. Sure I would say it could have. The response was, maybe two choices were not an option. One was to ask for money to purchase my breakfast or sit and wait with the group while they ate at 1030 a.m. in the morning. Since the flier clearly states lunch, financially !was prepared for lunch. Consequently, 1 crossed the street to Staples and BevMo (I didn't buy any spirits) after waiting 45-minutes I started to walk to the train station. I think if I had clear information that we were going to stop at IFIOP for breakfast I would have been prepared. I am sure that this will not happen again. I hope it will not happen again. Percy Brown - I note there is a lot of effort given to do what we have been trying to do for a while, to make this place a senior center and not just a retirement center. So note that there are things in the works that are being done to get us some extra activities after hours. 1 just want to indicate to the public that what we can do after hours depends a lot upon what you are willing to do to help us do it afterhours. Board Orals: Barbara Battle -Before Dr. Rizk leaves I would like to say thank you for a very informative presentation and also Mr. Williams 1 am really happy to see that we are Cnally moving in a positive direction. Our city is also helping seniors. As they do that, I just think that this is wonderful. I look forward to seeing the final results of your project. D. Joyce Fdner-Good afternoon to the staff and seniors. Thank you so much for the presentation from Mr. Williams and Mr. Rizk. A lot of seniors have been calling and inquiring about senior housing and I hope that these people that are in attendance today will be able to retain that information and Wke it back to some of their neighbors and fellow seniors to let them know that it's being constructed and there will be a place in Lynwood. That place has been boarded for some time and it's a good thing to hear that it is going to be available before the end of 2009 for seniors. Thank you for coming, 1 will look forward to the next presentation and update. Chair Paulette Bradley -Thank you gentlemen for coming. It has been a long wail for this building. I have sat through many City Council meetings while it was tossed back and forth. It was a beautiful presentation. Please spread the word to anyone you know that is looking for housing. This is good news that something is coming up soon. 1 just want to take a moment to answer a question that was brought up at last months meeting about parking. Again t wish to remind you to keep your eye on the bulletin board for the outings. 2 Comments on the fliers; we can always improve the fliers. Sorry for any miscommunication Pearline on the flier. We haven't had a lot of problems with miscommunication on the fliers but if we can make changes for anyone who had a problem with the flier we certainly will. Our word of the month in yoga class is "gratitude" for all the wonderful things we've got going on in our center. 1 am going to pass it on to you to think about it for the month of March.
