Mote No. 195 for 95,000 dated Jan. 7, 1938 due Nov. 30, 1538. :wrote No. 196 for 010,000 dated Jan. 7, 1938 due Dec. 7, 1938. Note No. 197 for TQ5,000 dated Jan. 7, 1938 due Dec. 14, 1938. This money was hired from the First and Ocean National Bank' of Newburypert bearing, interest at forty hundredths of one percents discounted. Jan. 13, 1938. The board of selectmen held their first - regular business meeting of the year with all members present. The usual m6ntr,l7 bills were approved for payment,! A delegation of members from the Newbury Grange appeared � before the selectmen in regard to rental of the hall. An agreement was established for extra meetings for drill ,cork fcr the fee of one dollar an evening. No other business. Board adjourned. Jan. 27.,. 1938. The board of selectmen held a meeting in the town hall, Newbury, at 7:30 p. m. The full board of selectmen tirere present. The usual routine of bills were approved and the treasurerfs warrant made out. Burton H. Rogers, Forest Fire Warden, tendered his resignation to the board and it was ac- cepted. It was then voted to submit the name of Henry F. McGrath, Jr. to the state forester for approval. A discussion was held _ with the welfare board in regard to finding some work for welfare ' recipients to perform. The two boards agreed that filling holes and digging drains on Hay Street would be a worthy job for the t u welfare recipients, and Mr. Dennett was instructed to carry out the orders. :; 2 .y. tT-Ci ai Feb. 10, 1938 The board of selectmen held a meeting in the town hall, Newb-ary, at 7:45 p. m. All members of the board were present. Approved the general routine of bills and drew up the treasurer ► s warrant. The selectmen then went over the appropriations for the coming year to submit to the annual toxin. meeting, Tues- day, March 15. It was voted to meet with the finance committee on Sunday at 2 :00 p. m. to discuss the appropriations and business for the coming year. The state forester returned the approval of Henry F. MicGrath, Jr. as forest fire warden and it was ac- cepted by the board. The selectmen voted to appoint Harold E. Jellison constable for one year from this date, Feb. 10, 1938 to Feb. 10, 1939. No other business . Meeting was adjourned. Feb. 24, 1938 The board of selectmen held a meeting at the town hall, ivewbury at 7:30 p.m. All members of the board were present. Secretary, Board of Selectmen April 28, 1938 The Board of Selectmen held a meeting at the Newbury Ton Hall. Hearing was granted the Haverhill Electric Company as to pole locations on Larkin Street. Vote unanimous in favor of. Petition by fish commissioners to close clam flats at Dole 's Island on thoroughfare flats, on account of being reseeded. Hearing granted LeRoy H. Smith on lot at Plum Island as to sale of lot. Sale Price 1z;,1.U0 Voted not to spend anv more or remainder of clam appropriation. Received notice of case of Scarlet Fever of Paul Thurlow9 from Board of Health, on account of his going to the Newbury 1.7oodbridge School. Petition received from Anthony Caramanagro, for Pool and Billiard Table License at Plum Island. Granted, 4j Tar. Berry brought up that the six dollars a week for transportation for 11j. P. A. Brought up that Parker River be watched for polution as complaints from different sources have been received by the board. Notice received from Boston and Maine Railroad as to discs missing from grade crossings at Mill Street and Highfields. Voted to have Boston and Maine Railroad to send discs for same. Tel.& Tel.officials agreed that the poles were erected without securing a permit from Selectmen, and that they would have them relocated on the East side of such way. The Finance Committee voted to approve an increase of 20% in the following Town Officials salaries; Selectmen,Assessors, Town Clerk,Treasurer, Collector, and an amount to be voted at the Town Meeting for the School Committee. Burns, Secretary; and Leslie Thurlow as the third member. Approved the payroll, and held a discussion about articles voted in the Town Meeting. The Selectmen held a conference with the Chief of Police in regard to painting the white lines on the highway at the street intersection and on the dangerous curves. It was voted to paint a white line on the P. I. Turnpike from the Newburyport line to Old Pt. road. The Chief and Selectmen were of the opinion that this would keep traffic in line and prevent accidents. Voted to have the Secretary notify the Haverhill Electric Company to install all lights voted at the annual Town Meeting. Adjourned at 10:30 P. M. Chief of Police Eaton stated he had made arrangements to have the white line painted on the highway early in the morning,Sat. May 5. Selectmen authorized him to obtain any help he needed from the Highway Surveyor. Held a discussion with a delegation from the P . I. Taxpayers Association in regard to no parking on certain streets at P. I. Selectmen referred the matter to the Chief of Police to study and make recommendations. Town Hall, The Selectmen received an invitation from Kent Rock Post American Legion to participate in their service on Memorial Day, May 30. Two residents of P. I. appeared before the Selectmen and requested that a road be built from Old Point Road on a Town Right of Way to the Basin, in order that they might drive their cars to their cottage. They were informed that to do any such work would require a vote to be passed at the annual Town Meeting, The Selectmen approved the payroll_ and adjourned at 10:00 P. M. Held a discussion with Chief of Police Eaton in regard to purchas- ing one more police telephone for Officer Charles Woods. This was not in the school property but was part of the Highway, and the Selectmen voted to request the Finance Committee to approve transfer to carry out the project.
