As trail advocates in our community, we request that the following questions be addressed as part of the EIR. • Will the existing/proposed trail alignments that cross wetlands impact the wetlands in any way, including the potential for increased erosion, impairment of water quality, and /or impairment of habitat? • What measures or alternatives are being considered to avoid or mitigate potential impacts, such as increased erosion and /or impairment of water quality? • Are there alternative trail alignments or construction methods that could avoid potential impacts to wetlands, wildife and habitat? • Can you study the comparative impacts of a trail system that has a smaller footprint, but equal connectivity? • Will trails be properly maintained on an annual basis to ensure environmental sustainability and safety? • Will trails be open and maintained for use year- round? Will trails be ADA accessible? • How will potential increase in traffic affect pedestrian safety in Glenshire Elementary school zones and along roadways and bus stops where children gather? • Does the proposed trail system within the Canyon Springs development also offer connectivity with other trails in Glenshire, enabling easy access to and from trails outside of Canyon Springs? • If not, what are the impacts associated with user created routes from the proposed project to Glenshire Drive that are likely to be created? • Off highway vehicles and dirt bikes are often used along utility corridors in the Truckee region. A utility corridor runs through the project site. What mitigation measures are in place to address and prevent the environmental impacts of illegal motorized vehicle use? • Will trails be accessible to the public, including non - Canyon Springs residents? • How will increased traffic in and out of Canyon Springs impact bicyclists and pedestrians on Glenshire and Dorchester Drive and /or other neighborhood streets? • What alternative transportation modes are being considered and designed for? • Are there mitigation measures that will alleviate the increase in traffic, such as the construction of Class 2 bike lanes, or additional trail construction in Glenshire that will enable safe, alternative transportation options? • How will the eventual completion of the Legacy Trail from Glenshire to downtown Truckee affect the proposed development, in terms of net increase or decrease in automobile traffic? On this last note, we strongly suggest that the EIR include an analysis of the Legacy Trail (from Glenshire to the Truckee Regional Park) as mitigation for increased traffic, noise, and air pollution and carbon output associated with the proposed project.
