I moved my family to Truckee from Nebraska in the summer of 2011. Two of the primary reasons we purchased a home in Glenshire were the tenets of the General Plan allowing for open space and the consideration of preserving habitat and wildlife corridors for the local animals. Our family believes in the inherent necessity of free, wild, and open spaces for quality of life — both ours and the animals' whose land we share. We moved here specifically to benefit from a town and a community that appeared to promote the value of nature through intentional planning. The proposed Canyon Springs development is in direct conflict with two land use goals outlined Land in the General Plan: COS 9 and CC -1 P1.3. The project constitutes urban sprawl — not clustering housing in accordance with the Land Use designation for rural areas effectively reduces the amount of desirable open space. The DEIR does not allow for a trail system linking open spaces within Glenshire or connecting them to the larger town of Truckee's trail system. In addition, the DEIR disregards any consideration of an established deer migration corridor through the proposed development area. The development would destroy and reduce habitat for a variety of local animals through fragmentation. The intent of General Plan COS -4 P4.2 is to protect our wildlife habitat from this type of destructive and intrusive activity. I find this disregard of a greater community vision in favor of a sprawling, habitat - destroying housing development alarming and I thank you for the opportunity to express my views regarding adequacy of the DEIR for Canyon Springs. Please feel free to contact me with any questions about my comments and concerns.
