Dear Denyelle Nishimori:
We are writing to you concerning the DEIR for the Canyon Springs Development.
1) This development is proposed to be built in the middle of major summer habitat for the Verdi Sub‐unit of the
Loyalton‐Truckee mule deer herd. A detailed map of the herd’s summer and winter ranges is available at:

This area is also the migration corridor for the herd migrating to the Waddle Ranch area. Deer are creatures of habit,
using the same migration trails year after year. Has anyone, including the members of the Truckee Planning Dept. read
this article below, with quotes from Mike Cox, big‐game biologist for the Nevada Wildlife Department, or from Sara
Holm, associate wildlife biologist for the California Department of Fish and Game, and Miles Moretti, president of the
Mule Deer Foundation? The findings from their studies should be used.

To think that mule deer can just change their historical migration patterns, or to move to a different summer range at a
moment’s notice is ludicrous. More detailed information from ongoing studies of the deer herd needs to be utilized to
portray an accurate assessment of how this development will affect the herd.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
