HomeMy Public PortalAboutPublic Comment #22 (Anderson)To: The Town of Truckee Planning Commission I would like to add my comments for the Public Record with regards to the Tahoe Donner Association Marina Facility Improvement Project at 12915 Donner Pass Road, application # 12-020/AMND-DP-UP. I believe that the Tahoe Donner Association should be able to develop their property however they see fit, while within the guidelines and rules of the Town of Truckee. The issue that I have is the parking for this facility that is along Donner Pass Road. My property has been in our family for 20 years. In that time I’ve watched the parking situation on Donner Pass road become more crowded in this densely populated area of Donner Lake as a direct result of the increased usage of the Tahoe Donner Marina facility. During the highest usage times, Forth of July & Labor day we, along with many of our neighbors, use cones in front of our drives to ensure we have access. There is a fire hydrant not far from our property that is encroached upon by parked vehicles—a safety issue. The question could arise if these people are actually going to the Tahoe Donner Marina or using other access points on the lake. From my experience of watching people park their cars and walk off, yes they are for the most part going to the Marina. It would be naive to think that this improvement project (i.e.: adding of a Liquor License) is for anything other than to attract more Tahoe Donner residents to the Marina facility. I support development that’s good for Tahoe Donner and Truckee as long as the already congested parking is addressed. I would like to offer a couple of suggestions to reduce parking congestion on Donner Pass Road:  To use the existing parking available at Tahoe Donner, the ski area would be one example, and then use their buses to shuttle people to the Marina. If not feasible to be done throughout the summer then make the service available on weekends and holidays. To encourage people from Tahoe Donner to use this system, a permit parking only for residents might have to be put in place for residents located immediately adjacent to the Marina.  To investigate the possibility of using a portion of the State park grounds for overflow parking. Tahoe Donner would need to negotiate for a fee for use of this space. Could be a positive agreement for Tahoe Donner, The Park and the nearby residents.
