HomeMy Public PortalAboutPublic Comment #25 (Didrickson)Sunday, April 14, 2013 Outline for a speech before the City of Truckee Planning Commission about the Tahoe Marina Site Visit Our Donner Lake cabin is located at 12950 Donner Pass Road, which is right across the street from Tahoe Donner Marina. I have expressed our concerns in a letter to Jenna Endres dated April 6, 2013. Over the years the Marina has gone from a family type place for children to swim, play and enjoy family interaction with their Mom and Dad. With sailboats offered for rent, kayaks and paddle boards teenager could learn to sail. And the summer hours were from 7 AM to 9 PM. But with the proposed expansion of pavers, lawn area, retaining walls and lights for walkways and 10 foot high double light poles in the area in front of the "snack bar" with two gas fire pits the Tahoe Donner Board is thinking of taking the Marina in a different direction. When I went of line and found www.tahoedonner.com /weddings /rates. I found that they would have weddings at The Grotto, Pavilion Lawn Area and at the Tahoe Donner Marina. The most expensive rate is $1000 on Saturday and Sunday for the Marina. And that is per hour. The web sight has also photos of several couples who have had their weddings done there. The proposed Marina has walkways around the grass area with lights and a separate small area set up at one end for an area where the wedding parry could stand. The proposed wedding area is be hidden from Donner Pass Road by a series of six Jeffery Pines. These trees will be planted almost under a high power line with a transformer on a power pole in the same area where the grass area is proposed. The utility company will have to trim back the tops of the trees at a set period. We question the reasoning behind the substantial investment for capitol improvements which the Donner Tahoe Board is going after the Wedding Business, longer operation hours for a "snack bar with wine and beer license ". That will increase traffic on Donner Pass Road, parking problems (they don't have enough room for boat trailers now). Tahoe Donner cars now park in the bike lane on our side of the road when they don't want to walk a couple of blocks (Truckee will give a parking ticket). Last summer was a preview of what was to come please read what I wrote on my three page letter to Jenna Endres. Thank you, Neal Didriksen 12950 Donner Pass Road Truckee, CA 96161
