It was very helpful. I enjoyed meeting you and hearing the Attached are some historical TDA survey results I will be submitting at tonight's meeting. Here is an electronic copy far the files. [Also I thought I would bring just one copy. I am not sure if I need more, but I checked with Jenna.] I think the surveys show the homeowner sentiment for protecting natural areas and the natural environment. Tahoe Danner is an important residential area to the Town of Truckee. It makes an affordable and livable place for folks who are supporting other major developments. From a planning perspective, these folks seek to live and work here because of the access to the amazing natural areas rather than the manmade recreation or event centers. Also is an article by a girl who has been coming to the Tahoe Donner Marina since she was 23. It gives a sense of the sentiment, peace, joy and mental adjustment this place provides so many. Regards, Patty Schifferle 1 The amazing sound of the light Sierra breeze rippling through thousands of pine :zees reaches my ears and brings a smile to my lips. I sit with my toes submerged in the strik- ing blue water that fills Donner Lake and enjoy the perfection of the moment. The blue water ranges from a vibrant aqua to a deep indigo and contrasts greatly with the rich greens and earthy browns of the surrounding forest. I look up at the puffy white clouds that dot the picture perfect blue sky and close my eyes to marvel at how the bright yellow sun warms nay eyelids. The hard wooden dock beneath my sitting form bobs slightly as the wake of a passing motorboat reaches the shore. I inhale and smell the sweet pine trees and can almost caste the burgers someone is grilling nearby. ol Small children squeal as they jump off of the :algae covered rocks and into the icy water. Little fish dart around their tiny feet and a crawdad shuffles into one of the many traps. I dive into the cool water and feel it, as smooth as silk, rush around me. I hold my breath as I kick down deeper, towards the sandy bottom, and pull myself back onto the dock. I lie on my towel and feel the sun tuck me into an envelope of warmth and let the wind dry my damp hair. I've heard the saying `a safe harbor,' but I don't think the first person to say it meant it as literally as I do when I say, "Donner Lake is my safe harbor." I come armed with my bathing suit, a book,, my iPod, and never enough sunscreen, and leave with a horrible sunburn and a smile on my reddened face. Even the things that would annoy or discourage other people, I have come to love. At Donner Lake, the sand burns my feet and 1 have to resort to sprinting across the 14 TAHOE DONNER NEWS I September 2009 blazing surface, but I wouldn't have it any other way. The forest green lounge chairs scorch my skin as I recline to read my book and the sand sticks to my damp towel. I eat crispy burg- ers and under cooked French fries on the old chairs that are bolted to the deck. I sit on the wobbly dock and try not to trip as I walk to the edge to sit and suck on a Popsicle. My days at Donner Lake are enjoyable in a way that is sometimes hard to appreciate, like the annoy- ing sound of a leaky faucet that is incredibly an- noying, but a comforting sound just the same. Donner Lake is one of the only places. that I can visit and, no matter what else is going on in my life, trust to be the same. It may be covered in a blanket of feathery white snow, or over run with hundreds of sun burnt tourists, but it is still the same lake. As soon as I kick off my shoes and let my toes dig into the coarse, grainy sand, I feel at home. The feeling of familiarity that floods through my body as I step onto the faux -wood dock is like no other feeling in the world. I know that when I'm there, just for a little while, nothing else matters. Donner Lake has its little quirks that drive other people away, but to me they just give the lake person- ality and I wouldn't change it even if I could. The lake is the one place that lets me take a break from daily worries and troubles. It is, and always will be, my safe harbor.
