I have raised my kids, dogs, at the Lake and enjoyed it’s beauty and peace that it offers all of us throughout the seasons and years. What I love most about Donner Lake is the access and natural beauty. What I like I least about Donner Lake are the crowds in the summer, especially the jam that happens at the Tahoe Donner Marina. I am writing today to urge you to not approve the proposed Tahoe Donner Marina expansion. This is a private club trying to expand on public lands and it is already way over crowded at that spot. I know the issue on the table at the meeting tonight is not about the lease that State Parks has with Tahoe Donner but I can’t help but bring it up to remind you that indeed, the property is owned by State Parks. As such, this is public land and though we can not visit this property without a pass, we all enjoy the view as we walk, drive, bike by, the TD marina area. I think the staff report underestimates the impact this project will have. Clearly TD staff have done a good job convincing staff that this will be a great benefit to the Town. It will not. It is not a good fit for this piece of property. It is too big, it will (though the Report says it won’t) negatively impact traffic and parking. Already the parking in our beloved bike lanes is bad at this end of the Lake, especially at peak times in the summer. I want my 11 year old to be able to ride down to the beach to swim but during high peak times I won’t let her as the drivers, parking and traffic situation down at the TD marina is too dangerous. Why would you add to this mess by allowing more development down at the site? I am fine with some upgrades but do not cut down trees (or trim them, same thing) or add a wedding pavilion or lights. These are all not a good fit for the site. Why can’t Tahoe Donner find a place to do weddings and events on some of the hundreds of acres they have up the hill? They have beautiful and large amounts of property, why do they have to have Donner Lake too? Donner Lake is for everyone. It should stay as a place for everyone. We have to put up with a few private clubs on the beach but please don’t support their expansions. Instead, let’s start working on plan to reverse the lease with Tahoe Donner and give that prime section of Donner Lake back to the people. I urge you, from the local perspective, don’t sell out to second home interests, like Lake Tahoe has. Donner Lake is so precious to the local community. Please don’t wreck a key gateway area for us. Thank you for listening, Seana Doherty Donner Lake Resident
