Dear Planning Commission members,
We are writing to express partial support for the resubmitted plans for the Marina Facility Improvement Project.
We would like to see Tahoe Donner make a modest investment toward additional user space and ease of access to our
existing facilities.
We request the following further refinements to the plan:
‐ Minimize slope disturbance on the western edge of the property
‐ Reduce the number of light fixtures and limit hours of lighting on the property
‐ Clarify that commercial events ‐ where the facility is rented to large groups (owner or non‐owner), or non‐owner
events such as weddings and parties ‐ are prohibited. (Possible exception: occasional large owner gatherings such as the
4th of July event, perhaps limited to a specific number per year.)
We are particularly concerned about use of the Tahoe Donner Marina for weddings and other large events. Our
concerns include: disruption to neighboring homeowners and wildlife due to amplified sound, increased traffic, and
increased parking needs; physical impact on the property from large groups, especially if alcohol is present; and
divergence from the character of Donner Lake as a relatively quiet, beautiful mountain lake.
In addition, we have personal experience with a homeowner's association in South Lake Tahoe that has been involved in
a lawsuit for several years because a nearby owner was disturbed by the amplified music from on‐site weddings. The
lawsuit has been costly to homeowners. The Tahoe Donner Marina is best used ‐ as a family‐oriented facility for
enjoyment by Tahoe Donner owners and guests.
The size and demographics of our homeowner's association make it difficult to gauge the overall preferences of owners,
and the Marina project extends beyond our residential boundaries. We urge you to take small steps when approving
enhancements to the Marina Facility.
