Subject: Tahoe Donner Marina expansion
Dear Planning Commission,
We believe the Tahoe Donner marina expansion is an effort to create an
income producing commercial enterprise. The scale and design of this
project does not suggest small parties for the benefit of Tahoe Donner
residents.
We are further concerned about the current water quality of Donner Lake,
as well as further degradation resulting from any construction. It is
fortuitous that the problem has been identified. These should be addressed
regardless of approval of the marina expansion. We hope you can and will
require any necessary upgrading to maintain water quality regardless of
project approval. The water quality of Donner Lake is important
environmentally and aesthetically furthermore, this would be an
appropriate use of our increase membership dues.
We remain especially worried about the impact of removing such a high
percentage of Jeffery Pines. This will negatively impact aesthetics and
potentially increase erosion. While we are sympathetic to the need to thin
trees for the health, the fact that two respected arborists have
conflicting conclusions indicates further study. Obviously dead or
unhealthy trees should be removed, but the Board plan for cutting six
thriving trees bends to commercial intentions.
The preservation of the unique beauty and nature of Donner Lake should
remain the primary consideration when re-considering the Tahoe Donner
Board proposal.
Respectfully,
Carol Murota and Neil Zelin
