To the Town Council of Truckee:
You will be hearing the appeal of the Planning Commission's decision on the Tahoe Donner Marina soon. This
TD Board seems intent on changing the ambiance of all our facilities to make them moneymakers, not
homeowner amenities. The projected change to the boat ramp seems dangerously small, the lighting seems way
too much and the destruction of trees and slope down to the beach seems just wrong. The beauty of the lake
environment is it's natural feeling. With tall lights obscuring the night sky and loud music from the events they
plan to hold there, it's going to seem like a theme park. The Marina was planned to be just that - a Marina for
swimming, boating, and enjoyment of the great outdoors.
As for the member survey they maintain has been taken - this is misleading! What really happened is that on the
Fourth of July, when people are in holiday mode, they questioned members (and maybe guests of members)
about the project. This is not the way to take a thoughtful survey, and since we were not at the beach at that
time, we were not able to voice our opinion. Actually, attempts to voice opinions to the our Board are met with
contempt.
We have been tax-paying homeowners since 1996; we bought in Truckee for it's natural mountain environment
and hope that it can preserved.
Thank you

Since TD is going to appeal the decision on the marina, what is the best address to send additional comments
as it goes before the Town Council?

Good afternoon,
The below link is to the Planning Commission staff report and associated documents for the proposed Tahoe Donner
Association Marina Improvement Project. You are receiving this email because you provided public comment on this
project either last September during the initially‐scheduled hearing, for the April 2013 hearing or for Tuesday evening’s
Planning Commission hearing. The link includes the staff report, draft Mitigated Negative Declaration, proposed site
plans, site photos and public comment received at the time the report was published. The hearing agenda is also
attached to this email.
Any comments received following the staff report’s publication will be forwarded separately to the Commissioners and
will be posted on the Town of Truckee Tahoe Donner projects
website: http://www.townoftruckee.com/index.aspx?page=1207
Link to Marina Improvement Project staff report and documents:
http://www.townoftruckee.com/index.aspx?page=1374
If you take the time to open the link and read through the documents, you will note that the staff report packet is quite
extensive and includes a lot of information and documents. For those who may be looking for the Cliff Notes version of
what is in the staff report, I’m happy to provide a brief summary of Staff’s recommendation and what is discussed
within the staff report. Staff is recommending approval of the project, however certain elements of the project are not
being supported and certain modifications to other elements will need to be made in order for the overall project to be
approved. Below is a brief overview of what is not supported or what requires modification:
Staff is not supporting the proposed rockery retaining walls and slope disturbance on the western side of the
property.
Staff is requiring an overall reduction in lighting intensities and fixture counts throughout the terraced walkway
area.
Staff is recommending limitations on lighting hours.
Staff is recommending a prohibition on non‐member‐based, commercial events. Staff is recommending
allowing certain types of member‐based events to continue (i.e. 4th of July BBQ).
There is discussion within the staff report which reflects the high volume of public comments received on the
project. This includes lighting, special events, safety concerns, tree removal, scale of the project and amount of
disturbance proposed, traffic and congestion and adequacy of the environmental document.
Staff’s recommendations are made to the Planning Commission, which acts as the final review authority unless the
project’s approval or denial is appealed to the Town Council.
Thank you again for submitting your comments and feel free to contact me if you have any questions on any of the
Planning Commission documents.
Thank you,
