Dear Town of Truckee Town Council,
I am writing to encourage you to deny the Tahoe Donner Homeowner’s Associations appeal of the Truckee Planning
Commissions denial to approve improvements to the Tahoe Donner Marina.
Most Tahoe Donner residents use the Marina for accessing the lake and sitting on the beach. The proposed
improvements, expanding the upper terrace and deck area, are designed to enhance the facility for holding special
events such as weddings and parties. In particular expanding the deck and dining area, adding lighting and a firepit to a
facility that is only open during summer daylight hours will be primarily for the benefit hosting of weddings and parties.
The Tahoe Donner Marina is fine the way it is. Especially the lawn area in front of what is now the snack bar. The lawn
is frequently used by kids playing and people waiting for friends and family to return from boating, swimming or
paddling on the lake. Replacing this lawn with a deck surrounded by rock walls, railings and a windscreen will create an
artificial barrier to what is now a natural setting enjoyed by many.
I encourage you to deny Tahoe Donner’s application to make the proposed improvements to the Marina. If you need
additional evidence of the direction the Tahoe Donner Management is going you need look no further than this notice:
Cocktail Service Now at the Marina
The Beach Club Marina is now offering beachside cocktail service. Get served lakeside while you enjoy the luxury of
sitting back, relaxing and enjoying the view of the lake while sipping on your favorite beer, wine or frozen drink.
The improvements proposed are more about generating additional revenue for Tahoe Donner than improving
accessibility.
