Truckee Town Council:
I would like to state that this proposal does not have the “overwhelming support” of the Tahoe
Donner membership, the Town of Truckee Staff and the Truckee Planning Commission. I
understand that a survey was done over the Fourth of July weekend at the TD Marina. Of
course those select few wanted marina improvements. A member survey has not been done in
several years. The Tahoe Donner board of directors has excluded member input to this project
by taking recent discussions and strategy into executive sessions. It is unknown what the TD
Board of Directors is now proposing. There are no plans available other than those which have
been rejected by the Planning Commission in their resolution 2012-08.
This proposal has been before the Planning Commission three times and does not yet have their
approval because Tahoe Donner has not changed their plans enough to incorporate their
recommendations. The staff and Planning Commission have given guidance to the Tahoe
Donner and the basic design has had only minimum changes since it was first proposed in
September, 2012.
1. The boat launch ramp has been made smaller to allow the patio dining area to be made
three times larger. This does not increase the ramp safety nor alleviate boat launch traffic
and congestion.
2. The tree removal is excessive and the construction can quite possibly degrade the health
of the remaining trees. The ADA ramps can be designed to minimize the tree removal
and the health of the remaining trees.
3. Since this is a dusk to dawn marina there is no reason to have TWENTY TWO, TEN
FOOT TALL streetlights at the highest elevation of the marina. This will pollute the
entire Donner Lake and the Donner State Park and other nearby neighbors.
4. Retaining walls and ADA ramps are planned in the thirty degree slope area which is
specifically prohibited by Truckee ordinance.
5. This whole project is designed to increase the usage of the Marina. Already the traffic is
congested and our parking is full early in the day which requires our members to compete
for parking along Donner Pass Road. This suggests that there should be a traffic survey
done and mitigation plans be made part of any marina improvements.
I would like you to vote as did the Truckee Planning Commission and reject this design.
