TOWN OF TRUCKEE
MARKETING AND VISITOR SERVICES SUBCOMMITTEE
REGULAR MEETING MINUTES
March 26, 2014, 4:00 pm Town Hall - Administrative Center
10183 Truckee Airport Road, Truckee, CA
1. CALL TO ORDER – Mayor Barr called the meeting to order at 4:02 p.m.
2. ROLL CALL: Subcommittee Members; Vice Mayor Barr, and Council Member deRyk Jones.
Staff Present: Town Manager Lashbrook, Assistant Town Manager Terrazas, and Administrative Secretary
Thompson.
3. PUBLIC COMMENT - none.
4. WORKSHOP
4.1 Provide direction to staff regarding marketing and visitor center services for the Town of Truckee
including existing agreement with the Chamber of Commerce, setting meeting schedule, and items for
future agendas.
Assistant Town Manager Terrazas presented from a PowerPoint presentation and answered questions.
Presentation is on file with the Town Clerk.
The group discussed the agreement between the Town and the Chamber of Commerce:
• Time is of the essence for a one year extension because both organizations are in the budget process
for fiscal year 2014/2015.
• The Chamber would like to incorporate performance measures into one year agreement.
• The Chamber may wait on some current projects and capital expenditures for the remainder of this
fiscal year to make sure that their work corresponds with the final goals of the subcommittee.
• Need to reach mutual agreement on how the incentive money is spent.
• The group consensus was that the subcommittee will discuss the one year agreement at the next
meeting and continue the discussion about long range marketing goals in future meetings.
For the next meeting:
• Review current contract.
• Presentations by Truckee Donner Chamber of Commerce which will including the following:
o Current benchmarks and performance measures.
o How the money provided as incentive for Transient Occupancy Tax increases is utilized.
o The results of the ongoing Visitor Survey.
o Broader Chamber revenues and programs outside of their work for the Town.
o Tourism Grant Program.
o What do other communities do?
o What do other Tourism Business Improvement Districts do?
• Presentation by Truckee Downtown Merchants Association.
Should anyone else be at the table?
• North Lake Tahoe Resort Association

o They have asked in the past for a share of Town marketing dollars.
o They do not want to consider Truckee as a separate community from North Lake Tahoe.
• Julie Maurer
o Has expressed an interest in being involved as a third party expert.
o She will be presenting about the Chamber’s work on a Tourism Business Improvement
District because the Chamber has informally hired her.
• Group consensus was that Assistant Town Manager Terrazas would reach out to Maurer as a third
party expert.
The group tentatively agreed that the next meeting would be held on either April 16th from 1:00 – 5:00 pm or
April 14th from 12:00 – 4:00 pm, pending confirmation with all presenters. Neither date ended up working and
the group rescheduled for April 22nd from 1:00-5:00 pm.
