ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The Transportation Advisory Committee has recommended that the City
Council modify the City’s design goals for the East West Loop Project. The City’s original position was established at the November 17, 1999 Council meeting. The original design included
a new connection between West Mountain Road and the new Boydston/Deinhard intersection. See the attached concept plan showing the proposed alignment.
The connector to West Mountain
Road would impact a significant wetland. The Army Corps of Engineers is very concerned about that wetland impact and will almost certainly not approve the proposed alignment. The Transportation
Committee is very concerned that the project will be delayed, or even stopped, if the connector to West Mountain is included.
The connector to West Mountain Road will provide an increased
level of emergency response for the area south of McCall and an important link in the County’s transportation network. Tom Kerr, representing the County Commissioners, has stated that
the County will not support the East West Loop Project if the West Mountain Road connector is not included. He acknowledged that the City should pursue the project that is best for the
City. The County’s funding will remain with the project.
The Transportation Committee recommends that the Council modify the City’s design goals for the East West Loop Project to eliminate
the connector between West Mountain Road and the new Boydston/Deinhard intersection.
