SUMMARY STATEMENT:
Last
fiscal year, our legal fees for civil, non-reimbursable attorney fees were in excess of $94,000. Our current attorneys, Moore, Smith, Buxton & Turcke, are proposing a renegotiation
of their existing contract to include all normal city matters, monthly retainer fees, civil representation, draft contractual, Comprehensive Plan, or City Code review, and bond counsel,
as well as other areas where attorney consultation is needed for state/federal funded projects.
Moore, Smith, Buxton and Turcke are willing to negotiate a contract for yearly services
at a set amount of $53,000 for this fiscal year retroactive to November 1, 2000 through September 30, 2001. Current fiscal year legal fees to date are $6, 951.00 out of the general
fund.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Council approve the development of a revised agreement with the current City attorneys for expanded legal services to include civil services for the rest
of the fiscal yea retroactive to November1, 2000 and to direct staff to develop said agreement and authorize the Mayor to sign.
