Truckee, CA 96161 dnishimori@townoftruckee.com Re: Comments for Canyon Springs Revised DEIR Dear Denyelle, The following are comments and concerns regarding the adequacy of the RDEIR for the proposed Canyon Springs housing development: Biological Resources: The RDEIR does not adequately address the significant amount of wildlife in the area. We have lived here in Glenshire for ten years and have seen more deer crossing the Glenshire road and around the neighborhood this year than ever before. We’ve had many close encounters with deer while driving. We often see herds of deer migrating through our property and headed East toward the proposed development. In addition, there are owls, bats, eagles, hawks and many other species of birds that nest in the trees and snags on this property. What about their rights? Other developments in town, such as Old Greenwood, have proven that animals do not return to an area once developed. Further biological studies need to be done since it seems the mule deer study is inadequate and doesn’t clearly address the number of deer that are actually migrating through the area. Traffic/Transportation: We are very concerned about bike safety in and around Glenshire, including the Hirschdale hill. With the numbers of bikers, walkers and children playing in the neighborhood, we are very concerned that the increased volume of traffic from Canyon Springs will adversely affect the safety of our streets. With 1700+ additional trips per day, traffic safety is a serious issue, and a thorough study needs to be done to mitigate these traffic concerns. The current RDEIR traffic study does not adequately address the increased danger from having more cars in our small neighborhood or in the event of an evacuation. Thank you for allowing us to address our concerns regarding the RDEIR for Canyon Springs. Please feel free to contact us with questions or concerns.
