Dear Ms. Nishimori:
As I was reading the Transportation and Traffic section of the EIDR I noticed the wait time at Glennshire/Donner intersection
show an increase of less than a second with the project during peak times. How can that be accurate? Two hundred houses, six
hundred cars during rush hour with no significant increase in wait time at one the key intersections. There is a great deal of
quality of life at stake here for people and animals.
I was interested to read that your staff expressed concern over the apparently overly “conservative” methodology used in this
study. Re: 4.14-15 Transportation and Traffic EIDR: (the 2011 peak summer levels without project table). If your staff
considers these peak load numbers to be conservative shouldn't they be re-examined? If anything the error should be on the
side of too liberal rather than too conservative.
I would whole heartedly agree they are too conservative. As someone who uses the road every day and has for more than seven
years, I would characterize it as at its peak already for a “minor arterial” as it is so designated. It is so obvious that this kind of
development should be on the west end of town, if anywhere. I don't live in Glenshire, but I believe there will be significant
change in the peaceful ambiance and level of safety for children vis a vis the traffic increase if the project is approved. Not to
mention the safety of older kids commuting to schools and jobs at the other end of town. Aside from the many ecological
issues or threats, as they are better described, you first need additional road infrastructure. That's the elephant in the room that
this report does not adequately address.
I understand that the owner has had an offer from the Land Trust to purchase the property. I would encourage them to do the
right thing and revisit such offers and consider investing the proceeds the west end of town. Then they could make their profit
and their buyers would have access to schools, shopping and the freeway and the deer and other animals could walk the path
they've walked for hundreds or thousands of years.
Sincerely,
Jim Vieth
