SUMMARY STATEMENT:
The past several years, the Lions Club has come to Council
and requested the City to extend the dates of sales for fireworks in concert with the state law. A copy of the state law is attached. The Lions Club will be making the same request
this year. They would like the sales dates extended to begin midnight June 23rd through July 5th, instead of July 1st through July 5th, and midnight December 26th through midnight January
1st, which is not included in the current city ordinance.
The Lions Club is also requesting that the Council change the ordinance to allow only nonprofit organizations to sale fireworks.
Attached are letters from local law enforcement agencies, the fire department, and the fire warden. The letters are in opposition to the extension of fireworks sales.
