Subject: Draft Trail Amenities Costs
The purpose of this memo is to present the draft costs associated with the trail amenities
for the Trail Amenity Adoption Program. The proposed cost to adopt each amenity is
provided in the attached table. Costs include an estimated cost to purchase and install
each amenity, the cost to purchase and install the plaque, and an administration fee,
rounded to the nearest $100 for costs under $1,000 and $500 for costs over $1,000.
Purchase and installation fees for each amenity are based upon actual costs associated
with recent trail construction projects, including Trout Creek Trail and the Truckee River
Legacy Trail.
The amenity adoption revenues are intended to generate funds for trails by allowing
people to adopt amenities that currently exist. When existing amenities are all adopted,
new amenities will not be added for the purpose of having an amenity that can be
adopted. For example, if all benches are adopted and there is a request for a bench
adoption, a new bench will not be installed to satisfy the request of the bench adoption.
However, the Town will remain open to examining the possibility of installing new
amenities should there be a need for a specific amenity in a new location. The decision
to install amenities will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis or as a part of the overall
design of a new trail.
Interpretive signs are currently not included on the amenity list as it was determined it
would be difficult to attach a plaque to an interpretive sign without interfering with the
interpretive display.
