SUMMARY STATEMENT:
The Idaho Department of Commerce has grant funds of up to $50,000 available to certified Gem Communities.
The funding is from Governor Kempthorne’s Rural Development Initiative ($400,000 available statewide). The purpose is to assist rural communities in their efforts to create jobs and
expand the local economy.
The grant application asks for $50,000 from DOC to apply to costs associated with public sewer improvements needed for the development of the Holiday Inn
Express. The developer would contribute $3,406 directly for the public sewer portion; the City of McCall would contribute $24,401, yielding a total of $27,807 (36% match).
A meeting
with DOC staff on 9/5/01 resulted in strong interest from the Department for this application. If awarded, funds would be available on a reimbursement basis. Work on the project could
begin upon notification of award.
Resolution 01-14 endorses the City’s participation in the GCI program, and authorizes the Community Development Department to apply for and
implement a GCI Grant.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Pass Resolution No. 01-14 and authorize the Mayor to sign the grant application.
