SUMMARY STATEMENT:
The Idaho Department of Lands has program development grants
for cities which are developing community forestry programs. The proposed project would involve hiring a forestry student (graduate level) who would work part-time for the City’s
Parks Department, under the direction of Dan Pillard. The student would perform a complete tree inventory and write a tree management plan for the City of McCall. In addition, the
student would work part-time for Ponderosa State Park, under the direction of Dennis Coyle. Duties there would include identification of hazard trees, participation in the urban fire
interface project, and other forest related duties. Ponderosa Park would provide free housing for the student as its in-kind contribution for the project.
This grant provides for
interagency cooperation, a source of expertise at little cost to the City, and
an outstanding learning opportunity for a forestry student.
RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Approve the grant
application and authorize the Mayor to sign.
