- CALDERON - No Comment
- MENDOZA - He stated that everyone should show up for the
Senior Center Grand Opening. It's there for all of us. He
commented that it would be nice to have a Veterans Memorial to
incorporate into the Veterans Day Ceremony this year. Every
other city seems to have a Veterans Memorial. Board Member
Mendoza offers Chairperson Beimer a ride to and from the
Veterans Affairs Council meetings while his broken hip is still
mending.
- WILLIAMS -Absent
- BEIMER - He stated that former Board Member Ann Fields
brought back records related to Veterans affairs from trips to
Hawaii and Nevada, if we want to use them. The information is
still in its original packaging. Chairperson Beimer asked if a tank
has been placed in South Gate Park. Mr. Hernandez stated that
there is a big tank next to the Veterans Memorial in South Gate
Park.
- Art Hernandez - He stated there was a good article in the L.A.
Times regarding the fact that teachers don't want youth to join the
R.O.T.C. The teachers feel that the R.O.T.C. is targeting Latinos
to join the military service.
Board Member Wood stated that the R.O.T.C. Instructor is going
to resign. He is tired of personal attacks from teachers. The
program helps keep youth off of the streets.
