Open Space Recreation Land Use
OSR
• Applied to areas where developed recreation
uses would be compatible with natural
resources . This designation is intended to
minimize suburban and rural residential sprawl ,
and to protect significant vistas , wildlife
movement corridor, open space and
accommodate recreational uses such as golf
courses . . . . OSR serves as a buffer between the
more intensive development on PC-2 and the
RC/OS designation . OSR differs from RC /OS
in that it allows for more intensive recreation/
residential development where appropriate .

What' s expected in the General
• Plan update L .„,f,,,
• Focus on open space preservation appears .
much stronger than 8 years ago- but so does
focus on affordable housing and other issues.
• Lack of formal entity to acquire and manage
open space (and trails) a problem in terms of
implementation- Land Trust has stepped up but
lacks revenue stream- Open space ownership
not a statutory 'mandate for the Town- competing
for increasingly scarce resources .
