SUMMARY
STATEMENT: The City has the opportunity to enter into a partnership with the County to have an Americorps position in the community working with our youth on asset building. The County
would provide $1,000 of the $3,000 match, along with office space, computer/internet access and telephone. AIC would provide training and support. We would use the Youth Advisory Committee
as an additional resource to provide focus to the individual. Terry Lewis and Robert Strope would serve as primary contacts for the County and City in terms of specific goals and objectives
and would meet on a continuing basis to provide guidance to the selected person. This is an excellent opportunity to not only do something positive for youth in the community, but also
partnership with the County. We would develop a partnership agreement between the City and County for this one-year program. Terry Lewis is presenting the idea to the County Commissioners
for their approval. Our participation would be contingent on that approval.
RECOMMENDED ACTION: Approve the partnership between the County and City to place an Americorps position
in the community. Authorize the City Manager to sign the required documentation to formalize the request and acceptance of the position. Authorize the Mayor to sign the partnership
agreement when complete.
