REVENUE MEASURE FOR HOUSING

COMMITTEE MISSION: To consider and guide a ballot measure to increase Transient
Occupancy Tax to fund ongoing housing policies, projects, and programs.

3. DISCUSSION ITEMS:
3.1 Review and Discussion of Advisory Committee Recommendations.
a. Election Timing: November 2020
b. Tax Rate: 2%
c. General Tax or Special Tax: Special Tax
d. Use of Funds: Housing
e. Duration: 15-20 years
3.2 Review of Proposed Ballot Question Language.
Without increasing taxes on Truckee residents, shall an ordinance be adopted increasing the
Town of Truckee's transient occupancy tax paid by hotellshort-term rental guests from 10% to
12% for XX years, generating approximately $700,000 annually to support housing that is
affordable for workers needed to sustain Truckee's economy, families struggling to rent/buy a
home in Truckee, and essential professionals like teachers, nurses, firefighters, and police
officers, with independent audits and all funds spent in Truckee?
3.3 Review of Proposed Ballot Measure Development and Informational Outreach Timeline.
3.4 Discussion of Presenting Advisory Committee Recommendations to Town Council.
3.5 Discussion of Independent Advocacy Campaign Committee.
3.6 Other Issues and Questions regarding ballot measure and campaign process.
